Well, we are at the mid mark of the year and I had a look back the other day to my 2007 Internet Marketing Predictions I blogged about back in December/06 and I thought to myself…. Man I’m smart! Or maybe I just copied somebody else’s predictions or was merely pointing out the obvious, but that’s beside the point.

One of my predictions for 2007 was that we would see the rapid emergence of targeted Social networks seeking to connect with many diverse business and special interest groups and demographics.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to come across Sphinn the other day - A Social network for Search and Interactive Marketers. Similar to other social sites, you can share and read industry specific news stories, take part in different discussions and basically dialogue and network with others in the industry. They also have an interactive Events calendar for posting upcoming events in the industry and "face to face" networking opportunities.

One cool feature in their network is the ability to "Stalk" or "Be Stalked" by other members - sounds a little freaky, but it is Sphinn lingo for reaching out to others to dialogue with and discuss different business and partnerships opportunities.

Finally, the name Sphinn - What’s the deal there? Well, at first glance, I just assumed they randomly grabbed the name from the Balderdash Game Box, but that is not case.  To quote from the site:

"Finally, why Sphinn? We liked the idea of a place where marketers could put their own spin on news by commenting on stories or having discussions. But spin.com was taken, as was spinn.com and sphinnn.com was a N too far, we felt. So we went with sphinn.com, pronouncing it "sp-hinn."

Check out this niche social network - my initial review would be two thumbs up! (IMHO)
